Followed by a Q/A session with Amélie Nothomb.
Based on Amélie Nothomb's best-selling autobiographical novel, Fear and Trembling (Alain Corneau, 2003), the film stars Sylvie Testud, winner of a César award for Best Actress.
Amélie, a dreamy young Belgian woman, arrives in Japan to work as a translator for the giant Yumimoto Corporation. For Amélie, who spent her childhood in Japan, this is a dream come true. It is her chance to become a ''real Japanese.'' Unfamiliar with the customs of the Japanese workplace, she commits a series of cultural missteps and is singled out as a deviant within the company hierarchy.
''More entertaining than Lost in Translation! One of the screen's most cuttingly funny looks at office life. Sylvie Testud crafts a truly incredible performance.'' - Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune
